Musical Notes

Two things for your Friday afternoon:

1) I was thrilled to learn from Pitchfork that Neko Case's is recording a follow-up to her amazing 2006 release, Fox Confessor Brings the Flood. That album was absolutely stunning...my favorite album of that year.

2) Alex Dupree and his Trapdoor Band are sort of Burnside's Official Band. That is to say, I think they're utterly spectacular, and we somehow lucked into finding them before most anyone else (even NPR!). Their last album, Las Meridanzas, was third on my top 10 list for 2007. For those of you who've never had the opportunity to hear Alex, his website now offers a way.

There are lovely (if faintly recorded) versions of "Amazing Grace" and Gillian Welch's "Miss Ohio". But if you want a recap of what Alex does best, here are his finest tracks:

"Sarah is Rising"
"Earth-Mouth" (my personal favorite)
"Guaranteed Wintertime Blues" (A heavily remixed version. The original is straightforward folk.)

But yeah, check those out. And if you like them, support Alex and his zany menagerie by picking up his albums on iTunes. They're both excellent.
