Today, the earth-shattering conclusion. If the whole YouTube video layout is annoying for you, or if you want to hear other Neko Case songs, just go to Spotify. You really can't go wrong anywhere, but her later stuff is more readily accessible
5. "The Slow Descent Into Alcoholism" from Mass Romantic by The New Pornographers.
Case's vocals on "The Slow Descent Into Alcoholism" are entirely backing, but they're still probably the best thing about this song, which is also awesome in every other way. That's how good Neko Case is. I'm telling you.
I love how Neko Case's voice gets on fast songs, like it's strung tight as a violin. Until "Man", I thought this was her best pop song.
3. "Man" from the upcoming The Worse Things Get, The Harder I Fight, The Harder I Fight, The More I Love You
Like I said, her best pop song, and the way she sings "Then I am the man in the fucking moon" is probably the best musical word of the word "fuck" outside of hip hop.
2. "I'm an Animal" from Middle Cyclone
When I first heard this song, I listened to it on a loop for about 20 minutes. Animals are an ongoing theme in Neko Case's songs, and one gets the sense she likes them considerably more than people. This is a totally understandable stance.
While this list didn't have any other Fox Confessor tracks, I'm convinced it's her finest album, partly because this is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard. In fact, according to my iTunes, I've only played three songs more: Feist's "1234" (Lana's favorite song as a baby), Cat Power's "The Greatest", and Blitzen Trapper's "Furr". Enjoy.
